Allan K.A. Marson, LL.M., Attorney at Law
Mr. Marson’s background is in business acquisitions, formation and sales, but his day-to-day focus is the contracting and regulatory challenges companies face while operating in the U.S. and China. Mr. Marson regularly advises on corporate acquisition and formation, trademarks, technology licensing and global mobility in the U.S. and, with assistance of local counsel, in China and other jurisdictions. He coordinates Internet, technology licensing and compliance surveys for U.S. companies throughout Asia and Eastern Europe through local consultants and attorneys.
- Mr. Marson was conferred a J.D. from the School of Law of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon in 1982, and an LL.M. focusing on Chinese law and financial services from Columbia University in New York in 1992.
- He is admitted to practice law in California, New York and Washington State.
- Prior to entering law school, Mr. Marson operated a construction business, and while in law school he clerked for the County Counsel and District Attorney's offices. He served as editor of the Journal of Chinese Law at Columbia University Law School in 1991-92.
- He speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese. With assistance of legally-trained Chinese colleagues, Mr. Marson provides quality Chinese-English and English-Chinese legal translations.
- Mr. Marson formerly organized and presented at speaking events for Baker & McKenzie. He speaks and writes on China-related legal topics, including trade and investment, intellectual property licensing, global mobility and Chinese tax developments. His presentations in recent years include expatriate tax and IP updates for Bloomberg BNA, an Exporting to China update sponsored by the U.S. International Trade Administration and Dominican University, and a panel presentation on China Ins and Outs: Investing and Fundraising, organized by the Palo Alto Area Bar Association
- Mr. Marson also has a history of volunteering for public service, including serving on a crisis line during law school, mentoring law students, mentoring residents at CityTeam (a recovery center) in San Jose, CA, and working with orphans in, Harare, Zimbabwe.
